Crossing Skin is a project developed by Junk Ensemble over a two years period. (2020/2022), who became an immersive live dance installation.
Megan and Jessica Kennedy asked me to collaborate with them early on in the process, with a series of meetings and workshops on the subject of the SELKIE.
This mythological character is a passionate woman, a lover of a human, tempted by the return to the sea, to the depths of the ocean, to the elsewhere. I have been intrigued by this myth for a long time and I draw a lot…it was very present in me while I was living near the sea, drawing seaweed and dresses….
We thought rubber, black plastic, seals, seaweeds…Amanda drew a pattern and cut this dress, made of latex drapes, hanging heavy, sounding like a storm when slapping against surfaces… Maud and Bernie’s theatre is quite radical and pure and I wanted the costumes to reflect that.
