Ciseach emerged from Catherine Young’s desire will to create a dance manifesto about our relationship to nature, and to do so through genuine group work during its preparation. She makes respect between collaborators a priority and this in turn becomes the show. I used a strong gold shiny floor to express wealth and to capture light and reflections, using the forest as inspiration. The idea to use stumps was inspired by Shawbrooke Wood, the family farm of Philipp and Anicka, which is where the rehearsal space was located. Philipp showed me stumps he cut a few years ago, and they were covered with gold also, creating seats but also a kind of circle.
