SAINT PATRICK FESTIVAL: PRODUCTION DESIGNER AND CO ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
I designed all visuals for City Fusion for 11 years and was the artistic director of City Fusion and Brighter Future. Myself and Muirne Bloomer co-directed those pageants, produced by Saint Patrick Festival. Performed in front of half a million people live and televised.
City Fusion was a fascinating project, created to promote diversity of all kinds through street arts theatre. Integration and high quality art were the two mottos in the heart of this project. A storyboard was always the starting point. To both tell a story and describes the visual that was then build by specialised artists (costumes, props, floats making, make up) About 250 participants each year, coming from different communities, were taught a choregraphy and were given all visuals items, always made from individual to individual. That project was beautiful and moving. Amazing costumes, masks, props, floats were invented, made, but also lot of meetings. Meetings of peoples from all horizons dancing proudly on the National Day. Meetings, stories, and art. I learned a lot from street theatre design: I love the scale, the parameters (weather...!) and the evanescence...the street energy, the joyfulness, the innocence.
